Formentera del Segura is one of the smaller Vega Baja towns, sitting on the Segura between Rojales and Benijófar. It is quiet, genuinely Spanish, and has attracted a modest but steady British and Irish population over the last twenty years — mostly people who wanted a village rather than an urbanisation.
The housing is a mix of older town properties in the centre and newer villas and bungalows on the edges, almost all tiled throughout. That puts the work here onto upholstery, mattresses, rugs and hard-floor and grout treatment rather than fitted carpet.
The river is the local factor. Proximity to the Segura keeps ground-floor humidity higher than the street would suggest, particularly in older properties with solid floors and no damp course. It does not usually show as visible damp; it shows as rugs that never quite feel dry, sofa cushion bases that hold a faint smell, and mattresses that develop spotting on the underside. Those are all fixable, and treating them is far cheaper than replacing furniture that is not actually worn out.
Once you are off the coast, finding trades who work in English becomes the difficult part. Everything here is run in English — the quote, the appointment, the invoice, the follow-up — and we do not use translation apps or send someone who cannot explain what they are doing.
Prices are identical to the coast. Carpets and rugs from €45, sofas from €55, mattresses from €40, regular cleaning at €18 an hour with a three-hour minimum, full car valet €55. Travel is free, with no inland surcharge and no minimum distance, and payment is taken after the work rather than before.
Because the town is small, we usually combine visits — if you have neighbours who want something done the same day, mention it and everyone gets the multi-service discount rather than just you.
