Ciudad Quesada is a sprawling hillside urbanisation in the Rojales municipality, and it holds one of the densest British and Irish populations anywhere inland on the Costa Blanca. Doña Pepa, Rojales Hills and the streets around La Marquesa golf make up most of it, and the housing is overwhelmingly detached villas and townhouses — the large majority with a private pool.
Pools change the cleaning job in a way people do not anticipate. Chlorinated water carried indoors on wet feet and towels deposits into carpet, rugs and upholstery, and over a season it degrades the dye. It is a slow bleaching effect rather than a stain, concentrated in the traffic path between the pool door and the bathroom, and by the time it is visible it is permanent. Rinsing that path properly once a year is genuinely preventative rather than cosmetic.
The other pool consequence is suncream, in far higher volumes than a beach property because people are in and out of the water all day. It bonds into upholstery and oxidises to a yellow-brown that darkens for months.
Quesada sits away from the sea, and inland Alicante gets hotter in summer and colder at night in winter than the coast. Sustained heat in a closed villa degrades foam in mattresses and sofa cushions and accelerates the off-gassing that produces a stale smell, and the temperature swing drives condensation in shuttered rooms through the winter.
