Playa Flamenca is one of the longest-established parts of the Orihuela Costa. Much of it was built through the 1980s and 1990s, and a large proportion of the residents here are permanent rather than seasonal — people who moved out fifteen or twenty years ago and stayed. The Saturday market is one of the biggest on the Costa Blanca and pulls the whole coast in.
The practical consequence for us is that Playa Flamenca has more original fitted carpet, more long-serving three-piece suites and more mattresses over ten years old than the newer urbanisations up the road. That is not a criticism — it is simply that people who live somewhere permanently keep their furniture, while rentals get replaced.
Older soft furnishings respond very well to proper cleaning, and the difference is far more dramatic than on a two-year-old sofa. What comes out of a fifteen-year-old lounge carpet in Playa Flamenca is genuinely startling to most owners, because the soiling has built so gradually that nobody noticed it happening. House dust mites need warmth and humidity above roughly 50 per cent to breed. Coastal Alicante provides both for most of the year, which is why mite populations in mattresses and upholstery here run considerably higher than in a centrally-heated British house.
If you or a family member has developed a persistent morning cough, itchy eyes or worsening asthma since moving out — and a lot of people do, and blame the pollen or the air conditioning — the mattress is worth ruling out first. Hot steam kills mites and denatures the allergen proteins in their waste, which is the part that actually triggers the reaction. Vacuuming alone does not.
We use commercial steam and pH-neutral, non-toxic products on everything. There is no bleach smell, no chemical residue left behind and nothing that needs airing off before the room can be used again. That is a deliberate choice, not a marketing line — it matters when the whole point of the job is to reduce what someone is breathing in.

Yes, and it is usually the better option for older fibres because it does not rely on harsh chemicals. We check the backing and the fibre type on arrival. If a carpet is failing at the backing or the seams we will tell you before we start rather than after.
