Torre de la Horadada is the coastal side of Pilar de la Horadada — a low-key family resort with a marina, several Blue Flag beaches, a promenade and the sixteenth-century watchtower it takes its name from. It is noticeably calmer than the Orihuela Costa strip, with a mix of Spanish holidaymakers, permanent residents and a growing British and Irish presence.
The property is mostly low-rise apartment blocks near the front, plus villas and townhouses behind. A large share is second-home or holiday-let, which produces the standard coastal winter outcome: shut up from October, salt-laden humid air, shutters down, and moisture settling into mattresses and sofa cushions for five months.
That is the source of the smell owners find when they open up in spring. It is inside the filling rather than in the air, which is why ventilation and air freshener do nothing, and it is the single most common reason people here replace mattresses that are structurally fine. One extraction treatment usually resolves it completely.
With a working marina here, we get a steady amount of boat interior work, and it is the same job as a closed apartment only more concentrated. A boat left over winter is enclosed, humid and salt-laden with almost no air movement. Berth mattresses and upholstery develop mould and a stale smell exactly as domestic furnishings do, and the fix is the same: hot-water extraction and steam, not airing.

For apartments, key-holder access is standard. Keys from your key holder or agent, photographs on arrival and completion sent to you on WhatsApp, keys returned, payment by transfer once you have seen them. Changeovers run at €75 for a two-bed and €105 for a three-bed with terrace.
