Mil Palmeras sits at the southern tip of the Orihuela Costa where it meets Pilar de la Horadada, and it is about as beach-adjacent as this coast gets. Low-rise apartment blocks and townhouses sit directly behind a good sandy beach with a promenade, and the whole place is built for people who want to walk out of the door onto the sand.
Which means sand indoors, constantly, in volumes that surprise new owners. Fine beach sand does not sit on the surface of a rug — it migrates to the base of the pile where a domestic vacuum cannot reach it, and because it is angular it cuts the fibres from below every time someone walks over. A rug in a Mil Palmeras apartment physically wears out faster than the same rug in a property five hundred metres inland.
The same applies to car footwells and to sofa seams. Our dry-soil removal pass, before any water goes near the fibre, is the single most important stage of the job here — extracting sand wet just turns it into mud and drives it deeper.
Mil Palmeras is heavily seasonal. Blocks fill from June and empty from October, and a large share of the stock is either holiday-let or second-home. Both produce the same winter outcome: a closed apartment, salt-laden humid air, shutters down, and moisture settling into mattresses and sofa cushions for five months.
That is where the smell comes from when you open up in spring. It is inside the filling rather than in the air, which is why ventilation and air freshener never fix it, and it is why people replace perfectly good mattresses over a problem one treatment resolves.
The best-value booking here is a pre-arrival visit two or three days before you fly in: deep clean plus mattresses plus sofa, everything dry and aired before you open the door.

Dry soil removal first, before any water touches it. Roughly 80 per cent of what is in a coastal rug is dry particulate, and extracting it wet turns it into mud and drives it deeper. That dry stage is where most of the sand comes out.
