El Chaparral is one of the established residential urbanisations on the inland side of Torrevieja, made up largely of bungalows, semi-detached properties and small townhouses on a compact street grid. The community is mixed Spanish, British and Irish, and it is heavily permanent rather than seasonal.
Almost everything here is tiled or terrazzo throughout, with rugs rather than fitted carpet. That changes the priority list. Fitted carpet is a small part of our El Chaparral work; sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and mattresses are the bulk of it, along with hard-floor and grout work as part of a deep clean.
Grout is worth mentioning specifically. Older Spanish tiling was laid with cement-based grout that is porous, and thirty years of mopping pushes soil into it rather than off it. Steam at commercial temperature lifts it out without the acid cleaners that eat the grout itself. It is one of the most visually dramatic things we do and almost nobody asks for it, because people assume grey grout is just what old grout looks like.
The most common El Chaparral booking is not a regular cleaner — a lot of households here manage their own day-to-day cleaning perfectly well. It is the annual reset: a one-off deep clean from €140 for a two-bed or €195 for a three-bed, usually with two cleaners, covering inside cupboards, behind appliances, shutter housings and window tracks, light fittings, skirtings and full kitchen and bathroom descale.
Shutter housings are the one people forget. Spanish persianas run in a boxed housing above the window that collects thirty years of dust, insect debris and calima grit, and it drops back into the room every time the shutter is raised. Cleaning it is fiddly and it is the reason a room can be spotless and still feel dusty within days.
